Greetings!Welcome to Lancaster Lebanon Reading Council's website! This resource will link you to our council's events, programs, and other areas of interest. As I reflect on my own growth as a teacher of literacy, it becomes crystal clear to me that making connections to colleagues and experts has made me a better teacher. Other teachers have been instrumental in deepening my own understanding of the complexities of literacy instruction. No matter which grade we serve, literacy is a key to student success. Skills and techniques are critical but so too are those choices of text and developing that motivation so that students read for understanding. In my work, I have been blessed to see master teachers. These teachers are reflective practitioners who consistently assess their teaching and student reactions. That reflective piece is so powerful! Teaching is definitely hard work. In our quest to make this work impact all students, we realize that a college diploma in hand is not the end of our journey. Lifelong learning takes commitment, time and focus. LLRC is one avenue to explore for new learning and conversations with others to firm up our present knowledge base. I invite you to become more active in our organization. We will be offering multiple opportunities for members to network and learn about literacy. We also have a variety of service projects underway and appreciate any helping hand you can give in support of the projects. Additional information can be found by linking to other areas of our website. Economic times are impacting each and every one of us. Our current membership is dwindling and I am not sure of the reasons. Involvement and membership in professional organizations can be rewarding and make a statement about our commitment to education. I applaud you for your current membership and encourage you to keep current with your dues. I also challenge you to speak with your colleagues to let them know about LLRC. Your words might be all we need to increase our membership. As you get up each day during this school year, be reflective about your purpose of the day and assess your previous day's work. We only have 720 days from Kindergarten through 3rd grade, another 720 days from 4th through 8th grades, and 720 more from 9th through 12th grades to make a difference. Totaling 2,160 days, we have quite a bit to do in a little over 6 full years of time. May your school year be full of learning, growing and reflecting so that those in your care might also grow, learn and reflect. Sincerely, |
