Spring 2008The hours of daylight slowly grow longer and the temperatures slowly get warmer. We are quickly approaching the last quarter of the school year and have been leading for literacy throughout the 2007-2008 school year. We have led through our actions and dedication to make a difference in the lives of the students with whom we work be they young children, adolescents, college students or adults. As we teach, we also learn from our students. They teach us daily about thinking and learning. They challenge us to continue to grow and to learn realizing that we have never arrived and are never finished learning. As members of the Lancaster-Lebanon Reading Council, I invite you to continue leading in literacy and learning together. On April 16th, we will welcome Dr. David Chard to the Eden Resort as he speaks at our annual spring banquet. Please join us and consider bringing a friend to this event. As an organization, we will also have an opportunity to lead in literacy by supporting others on the international literacy front. In our second year of supporting Room to Read as our international project, we will be compiling recipes from ALL members to create a cookbook. Proceeds from the sale of the cookbook will benefit our international project as well as local service projects. You will be receiving a recipe form and ordering information in the mail with your banquet flyer. Additionally, you can print the recipe form and ordering information from the website. Please consider contributing one or more recipes to our cookbook. As I reach the end of my year as president of LLRC, I am reminded of the motto that my elementary school had adopted: Together we can! As a local council of the Keystone State Reading Association, I believe that together we can lead in literacy and make a difference in the lives of learners of all ages. I also greatly appreciate the many efforts of the LLRC committee chair people who have devoted their personal time and energy to support the wonderful things we do as a council. Together, we can make a difference! Your colleague in literacy, |
