LLRC to Support International Project: Room to Read

This year LLRC is focusing its support of an international literacy project on one organization-- Room to Read. Founded in 2000 by former Microsoft executive John Wood, Room to Read’s mission is "to work with local communities throughout the developing world to establish schools, libraries, and other educational infrastructure...to break the cycle of poverty, one child at a time." Room to Read works in Nepal, India, Sri Lanka, Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos and has plans to expand to Africa and South America.

Since its start six years ago, Room to Read has constructed over 221 schools, established over 3,300 libraries, donated 1.2 million books, funded 2,300 girls' scholarships, published nearly 1 million books in local languages and established over 100 computer and language labs.
